Make me better!

I'm sure that you've noticed that I've been posting tutorials lately. Since I'm sort of new to this whole 'tutorial' thing, I'd love to know what you guys think I'm doing right, and what I'm doing wrong.

To get a better understanding of what is currently out there, I've been perusing YouTube myself, watching tutorials here and there, and there are YouTubers that make really great tutorials, some that are fun/perky, and some that make me want to sleep.

This inspires the question...

What nail art YouTubers do you currently love to watch? Why? What/who DON'T you care for? Why? I know what I like/dislike might be totally different than some, or even most of you.

Since I don't make these videos for me, I want to hear what YOU want and like!

Leave a reply in the comments- don't be shy! The more information you give ME, the better I can make these video tutorials for YOU!

Rumor has it that I'll select one commenter at random (using a random number generator) who will get their choice of one bottle of Zoya nail polish. (sorry, I can't afford a lot right now, I'm saving up for a big expense.)

  1. Currently my favorites in youtube are cutepolis and TotallyCoolNails. I like tutorials that are simple and clear and don't last a lifetime. I prefer that I can hear the maker of the tutorial explaining what she does rather than reading a bunch of text. Also It has to be made interesting to watch, you know fun and individual. Just keep it simple but not too much :DD

    1. Cool! Great to know! One question- how long is TOO long?

  2. I like videos where you can hear that people don't take themselves too seriously, so I think your videos are pretty much spot on.

  3. Hmm, that's difficult.. As a reader of your blog I love your tutorials. I know your sense of humor and that you love and enjoy doing nail art. You should see that in a video. (And I do!) I hate when someone sounds like a robot!! Small imperfections make it more likeable!
I'm a very crafty person myself and I can paint. So normally I can see the technique behind nail art without needing a tutorial! ;) I do watch the videos because I feel like I'd miss something :D
And I like that you have the same opening/ending in the videos.

Oh and maybe it's different for people finding you on YT without knowing your blog. I have nothing to critize, because I like what you do! But I don't know how it would be otherwise!

    Man, I'm such a helper - not! :)

    1. Makes total sense! Maybe I should make a video on my YouTube channel asking this same question!!

      Thanks!

  4. I literally spent all evening a couple of nights back watching all of your tutorials and didn't get bored ! I love how personable your videos are and how you manage to make seemingly difficult nail designs look piss easy on camera ! Carry on doing what you are doing ! The only advice I would give you would be to make more tutorials for your previous nail designs from your daily year of nail art !

    1. lol 'piss easy' I love that! I totally plan on doing some of my earlier designs on camera! ;D Just easing into things with these flag tutorials so people can show their pride for the Olympics! :D

    2. I have actually watched every one of your flag tutorial ! I really enjoyed the series you did during the Olympics, and I'm planning on doing "flag skittles" some day soon ! Looking forward to more of the previous designs coming out in tutorials ! :D

  5. I love your toturials... Espacially the latest one with your fantastic pirate-talk :)
If you should change anything, it should be the length of the videos - although I can't see where to cut back on anything ;)
I guess you should keep things as they are, and please keep your personality shining through - thats a Big part of why I keep watching and following.

Hope this was a little useful :)

    1. Thanks!! :D Yarr! lol I'm trying to figure out where I can shorten them, because some are in the 2:30 range, but the difficult ones are in the 6, 7, even 10-minute range.

  6. I haven't been following your blog that long and I totally thought you were British for some reason lol. I follow the tutorials by CutePolish and MissJenFABULOUS. CutePolish is straight to business and MissJenFABULOUS has great techniques but she talks waaaay too much. I think your videos are perfect! You show your personality and have great technique! I like that you say what polishes you're using too.

    1. I think that is so funny- I get that all the time! I'm not sure why though. :D Maybe because I'm uber pale?! lol

      Thank you!!

  7. I like sayanythingbr00ke, xsparkage, and vintageortacky. They do mostly make up tutorials and reviews but sayanythingbr00ke does the most nail tutorials. The style that these ladies do their tutorials is nice so maybe you can watch them do a make up look and get some pointers on how to do nail tuts.

  8. I like the tutorials that CutePolish does simply because they are easy to understand & have a good flow to them. She doesn't let it ever drag on & all her steps & directions are clearly laid out & spoken. I feel this makes it easier for any nail novice to learn from. It's like teaching a class in a way & we're your students, ha! You've been doing a great job too!! We all support you & what you do and look forward to more :)

  9. I love your style and your personality. Just be yourself and I'm sure you'll be great! You can't please everyone all of the time. If you do what you love, that will shine through and those with similar interests will follow. Your tutorials have been easy to follow and your personality shines through.

    1. Thank you!! I'm glad that they're easy to understand. I sometimes have a hard time explaining things in a way to make it easy for other. My brain is weird. lol :-D

  13. I really like the cute intro. I like the humor you put into it. I like how you aren't moving the nail that you are painting. It is in focus and in the screen. I can honestly say that there isn't anything I don't like. Good job. I always enjoy your work.

  15. cutepolish. defanatly. her voice is so nice and her tutorials are the only ones i don't "mute". besides, the camera never moves, and the hand/finger rarely moves, what makes the watching much more.. ummm, relexing. she does edit the tutorials and write the name and stuff, but she's not doing it 'over the top'.
and how can i forget- she got greate humor too! just watch the polar bear in snow storm tutorial!

p.s. sorry for any stupid grummer mistakes.. i'm from israel and english is not my storng side :D

    2. to be honest, i have'nt seen yours. i did saw the pie one (which is 100% awesome) but i whached it with my computer volume broke. no speakers or headphones. :\

  16. I absolutely love your tutorials! You add just enough personality to keep them interesting while still getting to the point. The only technical thing I could give advice on would be if you could find a way to zoom in on your nail a little closer. But that just depends on the setup you got :)

    1. Definitely something I'm working on. I've been shooting them with an iPhone (I know, but it's the only camera I had that wasn't blurry). However, I have a brand spankin' new DSLR, just need to get a tripod so I can aim it down toward the nails (my current small tripod isn't strong enough. Planning to do that this weekend I think! Glad my silliness shines through though :D

  17. I like some jokes in a tutorial, and easy explanation of every step (some youtubers tend to skip explanations and you're just sitting there like "whaaa-") and a good view.

    1. lol I can definitely relate to the whaaaa? thing. Hopefully I don't do that?!

  18. I like the way you´re doing it. You keep it simple and at your own way, it´s very funny and easy to watch. Even when it is a lit bit longer, because i prefer to see every step of a design.

I don´t usually watch other tutorials (beside yours), but when I do, i like the getnailedd by Chelsea Queen.

The only thing i miss is the name/brand of the nail polishes. Maybe more time showing the bottles?! Or like your other posts that u put the name and brands in description, what do u think?

  19. Im a little weird because im subscribed to cutepolish's but i dont really LIKE them. Her voice puts me to sleep and most of her nails arent original AT ALL. Ive really only seen about 3-5 that i was like "hey i havent seen this yet..." but if youre on tumblr/read blogs/watch youtube. After all that cutepolish really falls flat for me. But tumblr... I LOVE TUMBLR FOR NAIL INSPIRATION (especiallyfuckyeahprettynails because its like the most well known nail art tumblr and alot of other bloggers submit their nails to them so theres alot of variety; and its also usually the first place i see new stuff(: )
And i like missjenfabulous because she has more personality and her stuff is a little more new and original and doesnt look as cookie cutter as most of cutepolish's nails do (i like unique and a little bit of a challenge. Im 16 but i wanna be a nail tech. when im older so i try and do the good stuff that takes me longer(: )
Oh and i like yours alot too(:

  20. First of all, I love your blog, though I rarely attempt nail art on my own. I can't say that I really watch many other nail tutorials, but I do love yours. Though I'm still not terribly likely to attempt anything fancy, I love your personality and they are great to watch.

I know this wasn't the idea of your post, but the one nail art design I would love help with is a Jaws/Shark Week one!

  21. Alright, I TRIED to come up with some constructive criticism about your videos, and just can't! They are my favorite to watch. I love the intro, it becomes familiar, and is the sound that good stuff is straight ahead! I like your sense of humor, the placement of your hand is good, I can understand you very clearly, and you use inflection in your voice that keeps a viewer engaged. Yeah, sorry, can't find a single thing to help you to become better - I think you are already there. :)

  22. Current YT’s that I watch for nails are LOVE4Nails, PackAPunchPolish, ArcadiaNailArt who was formally IndigoNova1 and now you! I love watching nail are where you describe what you are doing as you polish you nails and describe you inspiration. Not really a fan of just picture slides unless it is for a simple design. A sense of humor which you have and I love is great, but if you like to just keep to nails that is also fine because if the video is to long it could get boring. I watch people with all nail lengths and sometime like to put my own spin on the design if I try to recreate it. EBay has become my new friend. I also like that you are blogging because with the simple nail design a picture is all that needed.
