What's the Mod-der?
Thursday, November 4, 2010
Obviously, since I write this blog, I tend to write about and paint things that I love. Today is no exception, the design in today's post was based off the background fabric in a picture I can across on a nail art site that I can't find again... if it was yours, tell me, so I can credit you. Anyway, the fabric had a really mod, retro feel, which I absolutely adore, and when I saw it, I knew that I had to do a nail art version! I don't know what it is about this design that I love so much! Plus- it was EASY! The only tool required was a dotting tool! :) Would y'all like a tutorial of this?
I used American Apparel Cotton as a base, with American Apparel Hassid for the flower shapes, then for the colored centers, I used Essie Foot Loose, Sally Hanson Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in 06 Sun Kissed, Pure Ice Wild Thing, Zoya Yummy, and American Apparel Manila. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.
And, as an added bonus- look at my new pet!! :) (I found him when I got home from work!)

Wow, this looks awesome! I need to do this. And yay spiders! One built a web on our balcony right in front of the window, perfectly viewable from inside. The unimaginative name we've chosen for this spider is Balcony Spider. Sorry for the tangent, I just like spiders!
ReplyDeleteWow! That's beautiful! I am so going to try this. :D
ReplyDeleteThat spider looks no good.. Be careful of it will you? Also I adore-adore-adore this design! 60s flower power design is what it feels like to me!
ReplyDeleteTutorial about this would be awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove your blog btw... :D
wow! this looks so amazing...i thought they were decals! you do such wonderful work...i wish i could be you ;0)
ReplyDeleteI thought it was stickers when I saw! What a fun design!
ReplyDeleteGreat manicure, BUT THE SPIDER EEEHHKK. I hate 'em. I'd love to see a tutorial :D
ReplyDeleteDotting tools rock my world. But that spider creeps me out. He or she would have been quickly scooped onto a sheet of paper and placed back outside if it were in my house.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome !
ReplyDeleteOKAY..LOVE the nails.. I will have to try that one on my 9 year old...She will love it!
ReplyDeleteSpiders...ACK!! Lets just say my fiance said "what, did you just see a spider??" when I saw that picture. I squealed and scrolled real fast to make it go away! haha. Spiders and Michael Myers are my 2 biggest fears!
omg i hate spiders....i almost threw up looking at that pic!!!
ReplyDeleteon the other hand.... i love the nails!!!
I would love to see a tutorial for this look. It's fantastic! And I love the photo of the spider. Spiders are so misunderstood! Glad you are keeping him or her.
ReplyDeleteI've been following you forever and I rarely comment, but wow, i love this design SO much that i had to comment & tell you!
ReplyDeletei'm even glad you're not doing daily nails so you can keep this for a couple days :)
Adorable design! It looks so perfect, a tutorial would be great (although I have a hunch how it's made, it's always fun to check out tutorials!). And your new pet is awsome! My fiancé and I have a spider we caught one day as pet, we've had it for 2 months now. It's not like Denmark has any huge spiders, but this one was the biggest we've both seen so we just couldn't kill her. We call her Dame Edna because of her hairy legs. The best part is watching her kill the bugs we give her, LOL! Anyways, have fun with your new pet!
ReplyDeletevery fun design, love it but not the spider :)
ReplyDeleteDesign is nice...but what a cute pet :-)
ReplyDeleteWe have spiders like that all over the place here in New Mexico (looks like a wolf spider imo). I love your nails - very clean looking.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous nails and a not quite as gorgeous spider....
ReplyDeleteRandom Fact I read somewhere (probably not ture) but Humans on average eat 8 spiders in their lifetimes while sleeping! YUM.....
ReplyDeletewould lovve to see a tutorial of this. :)
ReplyDeleteA tutorial would be awesome!! As long as your "pet" stays out of it :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful nails... is that a brown recluse? (spider that is)
ReplyDeleteHI, I loved your nail (as if it were new).
ReplyDeleteAnd I wanted to talk a bit about my life ... Nail design and know how you draw a big band there in the U.S. The Almost, Underoath, Leeland ... ultimately
FROM: Your fan from Brazil

ReplyDeletemake a tutorial!!
ReplyDeleteOMG this one is soooo right up my alley!! Soso supercute!
ReplyDeleteAwesome I love the mod, and to someone else who posted earlier, yes I believe that is a Brown Recluse Spider nasty little suckers.
ReplyDeleteOMG YOU'RE BAAAAAAAACK! The nails are gorgeous but the spider is creepy!
ReplyDeleteexcellent nails! i love simple designs like these!
ReplyDeleteand i dont think that is a brown recluse. they are smaller and are supposed to have a "fiddle" on their back. they are also called a "fiddle back" spider.
I think the pattern is Orla Kiely. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteLooks more like a wolf spider than a recluse(for those debating). Regardless had it been my house it'd be Dead Spider.
ReplyDeleteMy God, their gear in nails are perfect! how can do flowers with such perfection? *0* every day I come here and stay with what makes beast! success!
ReplyDeleteomg! i screamed when i saw the spider!!!!!
ReplyDeletebtw i love the nails and it looks super her to do. tutorial please

ReplyDeleteWHAT ARE YOU?? i'm convinced you're a robot. cuz only a robot could be as awesome as you are :D
ReplyDeleteDo you read BUST? This looks like some cloth that was in an ad in that magazine.
ReplyDeleteI just did this on my nails and i ABSOLUTELY love it! :)
ReplyDeleteOMG~ I would die if I see this spider when I get home... I`m soooooooooo afraid of spiders ><
ReplyDeleteI can't even see pics of it and this one rly frightened me cause I`ve never imagined founding smtg like this here xD
Changing the subject... Your nailarts are awesome ^^
Good work!
I loved your youtube tutorial! :D So happy to have found your amazing blog! <3
ReplyDeleteI'm Steph :) Nice to meet you!
I LOVE the design!
ReplyDeleteIt will be POPular :)
this spider is ridiculously ugly and disgusting! I don't know what your gonna do with that quarter but that thing is a monster!!!
ReplyDeleteBtw... cute nails!!
That is most definitely 100% a brown recluse spider.
ReplyDeleteWe had them for years at my father's house and they had them at his work before that.
The most effective way to get rid of them is with sticky traps (they work better than exterminators because the spiders just hide in the insulation).
Beware! They can still "bite" even when they are dead!
That really does look like a brown recluse. They are extremely dangerous and the bite can literally rot your skin away-- sorry for being gross, but I know a teacher of my daughter's who got deathly ill from the bite of one of those things and had to be hospitalized. Be very careful!
ReplyDeletethat definitely looks like a Loxosceles recluse spider. http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ground_spider_Gnaphosidae_in_Spain.jpg
ReplyDeleteBe careful with it, cause this is what its bite does:

make sure you don't have others in your home :S
