Check it Out!

Today's nail design is an homage to where it all began... THIS was the design that I used to do all the time when I was younger, except way back then I used toothpicks or straight pins in place of a brush. Fun stuff right? What was YOUR first nail design? Also- because of the hugely positive response to the tutorial I posted yesterday, I decided to do another one. (you've created a monster!!) The tutorial at the end of this post is for Between a Rockabilly and a Hard Place. Fun fact: bother nail tutorials I've posted have been done 100% with my iPhone 4, from filming to editing to uploading! (Did you know that the iPhone has an iMovie app?! How rad is that?!)

I used Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud as a base, with American Apparel Hassid for the checkerboard pattern. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

  3. You crack me up. Because pin curls (which my mom wore in the early 60's) always (never) make me think of ass kicking, lol.

  12. Cool design. :) I really liked the rockabilly nails, too. My first nail design was a flower, I think. :p You know, the ones you make with five dots? xD

  13. I think my first nail art was little dot flowers. I really like the checker design - my bestie was asking if I could do that for her just a couple weeks ago.

  23. CRAZY! I was totally rocking checkerboard nails yesterday! But I'm happy to say that I have moved past my toothpick/strait pin/whatever I could find with a pointy tip (many earrings were ruined by nail art...) and I am now using cross stitch needles! YAY!

Love, love, love the tutorials! Keep it up!

p.s. odd i don't usually use so many exclamation marks...

  25. LOVE, love, love the tutorials. SO AWESOME!
You make it seem so incredibly easy. Plus, you are hilarious while doing that.
And seriously, how on earth do you keep your hand so steady?
I feel like I'm having a major neuromuscular glitch whenever I try to paint a straight (or wavy, or angular) line! Am I? Yikes.

  29. I'm so happy that you did the tutorial for the Rockabilly look: I went out and bought American Apparel California Trooper after you did that design! I haven't tried it yet because I'm waiting for some nail art brushes I ordered to arrive, so I'm well chuffed I got to watch the tutorial before trying it!

You're a total natural at tutorials, they're fun to watch :)
