Contest Voting

Ok, due to the abnormally large number of ANONYMOUS votes, which could be the same person over and over, I am amending the voting to ONLY count votes from a non-anonymous source, meaning they have to be from a GoogleID account, or whatever you use to legitimately follow blogs on blogger.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but it's gotta be fair. If you want your friends to vote for you, they have to use their account, NOT anonymous, because I will NOT count them if they don't.

Thanks,

Melissa

  3. Could you at least put some of them into consideration? Very few of my friends have blogger accounts, and I'm not going to force them to make one just to vote for me, so they all have to comment from anonymous sources.

If not, I completely understand where you're coming from, just wanted to give you my opinion!

  4. Lauren, sorry no, I can't make exceptions for one person, it wouldn't be fair then, sorry. If they have an OpenID account, that works as well.

  5. will you still be counting the votes that have a name attached to their vote, as opposed to the ones just signed "anonymous" ?

  6. Awesome! It was getting pretty lame seeing a whole string of anonymous comments voting for the same person.

  7. i would like to know who won the nail art contest?

  8. voting's not done until tomorrow at midnight Pacific time right? there wouldn't be a winner yet.

and yes,,, very nice not seeing a ton of anonymous votes for the same person over and over again... totally second that.

  9. People still are voting more than once with their google ids, though, which is pretty sad. its just nail polish, isn't this just for fun?

  10. Maybe there should be a separate category for Brazilian nails? Just kidding! :)

  11. When will the voting end? 11:59 AM or PM?

  12. I find something very strange. When I click on Thifas votes they all lead to dead-end yahoo open-ids. All the other girls votes lead to legit screen names and google accounts. Very weird. See how I just did it now??

  14. i'm just gonna throw this out there.. maybe it wouldn't even work.. but there's probably a website that you could post a poll and have all the answers be the different designs.. and then everybody could vote through the poll. you could make it one vote per computer so you won't have to worry about spamming anonymous votes and creating fake accounts and other stuff like that

  15. I hate to say this, but the fact that people are making this so difficult are making it so I am unlikely to do another giveaway for a while. That sucks, because I like being able to give back to my awesome readers, but after all the time and money spent setting up the contest, to sorting through the entries, to figuring out and tallying votes, it's sort of frustrating to see all of the issues that have come up with people voting, complaining about other votes, etc.

Contests are supposed to be FUN, so keep that in mind.

  16. I know some people got upset with me but I ,too, felt personally offended. I myself was having *fun* here. A lot of fun! It was the first time in a long time since I could involve my family and friends in my hobbies and activities. I've been living not less than 4,000 miles away from all of them for almost 2 years and I am very glad that I could still make everybody work together like if I were *back home*. I understand that people got upset but I can ensure that I'm for a fair voting and that in any point I (I can only speak for myself) didn't do anything wrong but bothering and spamming my friends for votes. Still, I'm sorry, everyone.

  17. All of you might as well stop voting. Maryya is going to win. She is soliciting votes on her blog, promising ppl 2 extra entries in her giveaway if they come here and vote for her. here is the link, see for yourself.

  18. I'm sorry but I think you people are rediculous- not the ones that submitted and voted or asked your friends/family to vote- but everyone that's cheating. How much would it cost to go to victorasnailsupply and BUY the prizes.... I agree with Melissa, this is supposed to be fun and its just not anymore with everyone cheating. Also, think about how much time SHE put into it to do something nice and ya'll (the cheaters) are ruining it for her honest followers. I think anyone that has cheated should be disqualified from the contest so the people who have been honest have a shot. And if you think I'm saying this so I have a chance to win, I'm not because I'll remove myself from the contest so other people can win if that's what you want as proof. Melissa, your blog is great and you're a generous woman. To all of your honest followers, good job and good luck. To anyone else whose cheated, you know what they say about Karma...

  19. And, as a sidenote.... if you already have an established blog and you're promising giveaway entries for people to vote for you, what are you doing on here? If you have a blog and you're giving stuff away, why are you trying to win it too? just wondering... cuz that's like a professional poet entering an amateur poetry contest and winning, even though you're published...

  20. and obviously when I'm aggravated I can't spell... ridiculous*

  21. Im sorry but maryya's design looks like its been touched up in photoshop. you can see this when you enlarge the photo. the middle finger looks like she made the outlines of the flowers more defined and sharper. and the ring finger seems like the petals were more defined (the black space between the petals was added in) and then used the blur tool to cover it up.

  22. according to her website, its konad on three nails as well, and while some people used konad, i don't really think a konad was appropriate for this contest. but, there were no real rules so i guess it all counts.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Tara, I know she used konad but thats not what I'm talking about. if you enlarge her picture it is obvious she touched it up in photoshop. Anyone with the slightest photoshop experience can tell just from looking.

  25. no, i saw that too, i was just mentioning....

i showed it to someone who doesn't even do photoshop and they noticed it as well when zoomed in...

I guess my point is that, i can't really point fingers (no pun intended) its just that, its a real shame that something so simple and fun turned into such a controversy. More than anything, i feel bad that Melissa has to deal with figuring out what to count and what to disregard... and the people that entered and are cheated by cheaters because everyone else gets discouraged enough that they don't even vote. As katie said, people are voting with ids more than once, what is Melissa supposed to do, click on EVERY entry and see if its legit and if they already voted?

  26. I have to disagree. I don't see anything wrong with the use of konad, unless this was a free hand contest -- which it wasn't. Besides, Melissa went through all the entries, one by one, and apparently thought they were fine the way they were. Even though there were fake nails or stamped or sponged or whatever. Unless you limit the contest rules, I think it's fair that girls use whichever technique they're used to.

Regarding to the contest itself, I'm really sad that things turned out this way. All this controversy and girls judging each other. How sad! I really can't imagine this all coming from adults. I feel sorry for Melissa. It's like having bad guest in your house and having little to do about it! It must be frustrating. I hope it all works out okay at least.

  27. Thifa Konad and stamping are fine. But digitally altering your design on a computer is completely out of control. Do you know what photoshop is? Or paint? Because thats what maryya did. She fixed her nails on the computer after she was done painting them. Its a shame that everyone takes so much time on their design, like you for example, and to see someone cheating like that. And yes it is a shame that poor Melissa has to deal with this. I wish people would have not cheated and not gone crazy with the votes or argued with each other.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Okay, that might be so but I think the biggest issue here is that the voting system might have failed. Maryya probably *did not* get most of her votes for her design, although her nails were also pretty. What happened was that whoever shouted the loudest got the most votes and that wasn't against the rules.

I had given the suggestion earlier of making the voting among followers only, in order to keep the contest in community. It might be late now and also not be the absolute best solution but I've seen it working before and the results were fair. :) Now, excuse me. I gotta polish my nails :D
