In With the New, Out with the Old...

Day 79

Happy New Year's Eve!! For tonight, my nails required sparkle, and champagne, and that's what they got!! ;-P

I used OPI Dazzled by Gold for the Champagne, China Glaze Liquid Leather as a base for the other nails, China Glaze White on White for the white on the champagne glass, and Zoya Luna for the silver sparkle. Everything was topped off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat. :)

I hope that everyone has a very Happy and VERY safe New Year's Eve!! Remember your designated driver!

Edited to add:

Here is a pic of me enjoying a 'champagne' toast ;) Don't mind the hair- this was at the end of the night after walking across downtown in the snow!! lol

Get Footloose and Fun-kay....

Day 76

Hey everyone!!! How is your Monday going?! Lots of you had to go back to work today, and I really feel for you... but I'm on VACATION!!!! lol Ok, so I'm on vaca in Michigan, does that REALLY count? Anyway, I present to you today's nails... I bough Funky Limelight a while ago, and really wanted to use it, soooo....I did.

I used Essie Funky Limelight as a base, with Essie Foot Loose applied with Konad Plate m69. Topped it all off with Seche Vite top coat. :)

Magical Footloose Attraction

Day 75

Hey all, sorry this post is so late tonight, 10:38 PM EST!!! I just got to my sister's after traveling BACK across the state to spend the remainder of my vacation here in freezing cold Grand Rapids, MI. WOOOOO!! Today's nails were spur of the moment, and I JUST bought this polish at Meijer (a midwest chain supermarket/superstore), and for a $2.99 polish, I have to say, its gorgeous. Fully opaque in 2 coats, but I did 3 for extra sparkle. (as if it needs any extra!! lol)

and a blurred one so you can see the sparkliness better, but the picture doesn't come NEAR capturing its glory. :-P

I used Massini Magic Attraction as a base, with Essie Foot Loose applied with Konad Plate m69, and then flower/swirl pattern was hand painted with China Glaze Liquid Leather. Topped off with Seche Vite top coat.

This one is sure going to be a bugger to get off, darn glitter. :-P

Mad as a Hatter

Day 74

Hey all!! I hope that everyone's Christmas went beautifully, that everyone got to spend time with their families, and that everyone's travels found them safely at their destinations this year!! I must admit, I'm rather elated to be able to not do Christmas themed nails today, is that bad?! :-P Sorry if it is, but yeah, I was running out of ideas!! Today's nails make me think of The Mad Hatter for some reason, I think its the acid green base that does it... but not entirely sure. Sorry again for the poor cleanup- still no good remover here at the parents' house.

I used Barielle Polished Princess as a base, with China Glaze L8R G8R applied with Konad Plate m65. For the tips, I used Essie Foot Loose for freehand painted tips. Topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Anyone get any good after Christmas deals today??

Dasher and Dance, Donner and Blitzen...

Day 73

Hey everyone!! I hope that everyone is having the most amazing Christmas to date! Mine started off with a 4-hour (should've been 3) white-knuckled drive across snow and ice covered Michigan fueled only by Dr. Pepper and a gas station hot dog. :-P But, i made it here, safe and sound, and it has been nice to spend time with my family this Christmas- I've even posted a picture of my 'niece' wearing her special Christmas elf hat to be festive for the holidays...

Today's nails are dedicated to the man that hit over 800 houses per second, and consumed over 800,000 calories last night from cookies...and let's not forget his trusty reindeer and faithful navigator with the illuminated nose....I really apologize for it's sloppiness and lack of cleaning up, the nail polish remover I have here at my parents' house is horrible, and I can't get the polish out of my nail art brushes. ARGH!! I'm going to try to get something better tomorrow. Anyway, to the nails...

I used three different colors randomly on all the nails except my right thumb. I used Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme, OPI You Don't Know Jacques, and OPI Ginger Bells. For the eyes I used China Glaze White on White, and China Glaze Liquid Leather. For their noses (except Rudolph's) I used Zoya Angelina, and mixed with China Glaze White on White for the highlight. For Rudolph's nose, I used China Glaze Salsa. For the black on each nail to make the shape of the reindeers' heads, I used China Glaze Liquid Leather. A mix of two not-named jelly polishes in sheer red and sheer yellow (a VERY cute gift from my friend Jodi) was used for Santa's face, China Glaze Salsa for his hat and mouth, China Glaze White on White for the beard, eyes, and hat brim, and Ultra Pro in Blue Blaze for the eyes. For the reindeers' antlers, I mixed China Glaze White on White with Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme. Topped everything off with Seche Vite top coat.

And lastly, here is the last of Christmas... a cake I decorated Wednesday night! :-P

Twas the Day Before Christmas...

Day 72

...and all the through the house.... I did the Christmas poem on my nails!

I used

Right Thumb: Twas the Night Before Xmas...

OPI Russian Navy Suede as a base, with China Glaze White on White for the moon.

Right Index:...and all through the house

OPI Russian Navy Suede as a base, with OPI Ginger Bells, China Glaze White on White, and China Glaze Liquid Leather for the house.

Right Middle: Not a Creature was stirring, not even a mouse! (unfortunately you cant see the mouse well in the photos! :( just his pink nose!

Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme as a base, with China Glaze Liquid Leather for the floor and lines, OPI You Don't Know Jacques Matte for the mouse, and a mix of China Glaze White on White and China Glaze Salsa for his nose. :)

Right Ring: WHICH IS ACCIDENTALLY upside down!!! The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, In hopes that St Nicholas soon would be there.

China Glaze Liquid Leather as base, with OPI Ginger Bells for the brick fireplace, Zoya Pippa, Sally Hanson Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in 06 Sun Kissed, and China Glaze Salsa for the fire, China Glaze Salsa for the stocking with China Glaze Emerald Sparkle border, and China Glaze White on White for the mortar on the bricks.

Right Pinky: The children were nestled all snug in their beds,

OPI Russian Navy Suede as a base, with China Glaze White on White for the Zs.

Left Pinky: While visions of sugar-plums danced in their heads. And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my cap, Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

Barielle Grape Escape as base with both OPI Parlez Vous OPI? and China Glaze White on White applied with a sponge to make it look sugary. lol

Left Ring: When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter. Away to the window I flew like a flash, Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

OPI Russian Navy Suede as a base, with OPI You Don't Know Jacques Matte for the window panes, China Glaze White on White for the snow, and OPI Ginger Bells for the walls.

Left Middle: The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below. When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tinny reindeer.

OPI Russian Navy Suede as a base, with China Glaze Salsa, BB Couture Poison Ivy and OPI Dazzled by Hold for the sleigh, and China Glaze White on White for the snow.

Left index: With a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on, on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, and St Nicholas too.

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.

His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

China Glaze Salsa as a base, China Glaze White on White for the fur, China Glaze Liquid Leather for the belt, Zoya Pippa with OPI Dazzled By Gold over it for the belt buckle.

Left Thumb: But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!"

China Glaze Ruby Pumps as a base, with China Glaze White on White for the writing.

Everything was topped off with two coats of Seche Vite top coat

One more dayyyyyy!!! Merry Christmas!!

Day 71

...and through the sea of swirly, twirly gumdrops... :-P Today's nails are from the snowy North Pole!!

I used Milani Fairy Tale as a base(which I can't find a link to buy, because it was LE for Halloween- I have one backup if anyone wants to buy it, lmk, $4.50 +shipping - which is what I paid), with OPI Alpine Snow Matte and Zoya Trixie sponged on the tips, and used to paint the snowflakes. :) For the North Pole sign, I used a mix of Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme, China Glaze White on White and Orange 2 from Urban Outfitters. For the post I used OPI Alpine Snow Matte, and China Glaze Ruby Pumps, which I also used for the holly berries, along with BB Couture Poison Ivy for the leaves.

Only 2 more days!! SQUEEE!!! (so much to do!!)

Cold as Ice

Day 69

You're as cold as ice, You're willing to sacrifice our love, You never take advice, Someday you'll pay the price....

Nothin' like a little Foreigner to jump-start your day, right? :-P Icicle nails today!! :) As you can see by the creases in a few nails, Seche Vite top coat has completely spoiled me.

and at an angle to see the sparkles...

I used OPI Ink Suede as a base, with China Glaze White on White for the icicles, and mixed with China Glaze For Audrey for the shading of the icicles. To top off the icicles, I used Pure Ice Oh, Baby!, a great (and CHEAP!) color from WalMart, of all places. I frankened a polish with a cheapie black polish and the result was one beautiful black w/ teal sparkled baby. I highly recommend it. It's an iridescent blue clear polish with iridescent glitters. :-P Love it. :)

I used China Glaze Salsa as a base, with China Glaze TMI applied with Konad Image Disk m64. For the tips I used China Glaze Emerald Sparkle. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

7 More days until Christmas!!

Christmas Around the Whirled

Day 64

So I must say, I am completely overwhelmed by the huge response that the contest has gotten- I didn't expect all the super-sweet compliments about the blog, etc!! I'm so glad that I have such awesome readers!!! I'll be posting comments on there to respond to people who've asked questions, or a few in response to certain comments, so keep an eye out in a little bit!! :)

Today's nails are inspired by a design sent to me by the lovely Jillian N. who is amazingly photogenic. ;) (she'll know what I'm talkin' about) She sent me a picture of her awesome red and white marbling design that she did for Christmas, so I decided to try them myself, but added green into the mixture. BTW, China Glaze Emerald Sparkle, while incredibly gorgeous, is VERY VERY hard to marble. It kept breaking apart into chunks. (you can sort of see what I'm talking abut on the right index finger) *argh!* It took 3 attempts at the nails to get this result, which I finally gave up and accepted, since it was 12:48 a.m., and I needed to wake up in 5.5 hrs. Plus I was in the middle of making raspberry chocolate chunk brownies for the office holiday party today!! :-P mmmm But anyway, sorry its not perfect, but what can ya do, you know?

Also, reader Sami expressed interest in seeing a before cleaning and after cleaning pictures from marbling, after her marbling attempt came to a messy end (which, I assured her, is normal :-P) So here you go! :)

Before cleaning:

After:

Left:

Right:

I used China Glaze White on White as a base, with Pure Ice 611 Platinum over top, then marbled with Pure Ice 611 Platinum, China Glaze Emerald Sparkle, and Zoya Isla. I had to add in the Pure Ice 611 Platinum with the colors, otherwise I kept getting a black/brown color. Like I said, this combination was frustrating. I love Emerald Sparkle, but I have a reaaaaally hard time cleaning it off my fingers and cuticles. Topped everything off with 2 coats of the amazing and glassy Seche Vite top coat!!

9 more days until Christmas!!

So hurry, get entered- the deadline is Friday at 5 p.m. Pacific Time, and I'll post the winners Saturday!! :)

Look! It's a GINGER! (bread man)

Day 63

Ok, so I'm a redhead (obviously), and one of my most LOATHED terms for redheads is 'Ginger'. Maybe I'm crazy and alone in this, but I despise it. ARGH. The only time Ginger is acceptable is in baking/cooking/eating, and in reference to GINGERBREAD MEN!! (and women). So for the second day of Christmas nails, I present to you... the GIngers. :-P I didn't draw a full man or woman on any of my nails, rather parts, like the head and shoulders, or body, or cropped it somehow. I even drew a gingerbread woman on my pinky! :)

I used China Glaze Emerald Sparkle as a base (gorgeeeoussss!), with OPI Ginger Bells for the ginger bread men, and Migi Nail Art Pens for the white. :) Of course, topped off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat too!

10 More Days Until Christmas!! :)

OH, TANNENBAUM!!

Day 62

Hey all! Today marks the start of Christmas themed nails.... from now until Christmas!!! Today's going to start it off with a bang, pow, FLASH! too!! :) (It pays to work with super awesome engineers) My coworker, Ben, came up with the idea to use LEDs on my nails, and actually rigged a set of LEDs to run off a battery pack for me to use!!! How awesome is that?!?!?! I decided to use them as the stars on the tops of my Christmas trees. Hope you like them as much as I do! (They make me chuckle everytime I look down and see *flash* *flash* *flash*) One another note, I also used nail gems as 'ornaments' for the trees, man, do I NOT like having stuff glued to my nails. I don't like the bumpy feeling, and how they catch on everything. ARGH! Won't be doing jewels again. The bandaids are just to hold and cover the wires.... Anyway...

The nails:

The video:

I used China Glaze Ruby Pumps as a base (a PERFECT sparkly Christmas color!!), and BB Couture Poison Ivy for the trees. FOr the tinsel & garland, I used Zoya Trixie, my favorite favorite favorite silver ever. Topped it off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat, one before the nail gems, and one after.

Only 11 more days til Christmas!! :)

Purple Reigns

Day 61

Hi all! Today's nails are inspired by a design that was done by the lovely Deniz on her Emerald Sparkled blog. I used drastically different nail colors, but still a similiar design :) Hope she doesn't mind!!

My middle finger cuticle is red because I accidentally skinned it with a piece of plexiglass in chocolate class yesterday. It's sore. :(

I used China Glaze IDK as a base, with Zoya Pinta moon at the base of the nail, and China Glaze Sci Fi-Khrome stamped using Konad Plate m51.

Sorry tonight's nails are kinda late tonight, I don't really feel well today, so I've been sleeping trying to feel better. (Not working)

8 CRAAAAAZY Nights

Day 60

Hey all!! Today's (or rather, TONIGHT'S) nails are for Hanukkah! My roommate, Maris, is Jewish, and she's having her annual Hanukkah bash, so I thought I'd be festive and paint Hanukkah themed nails. My apologies for the smudges and lack of detail, I had to do them QUICK, since there are like a million people at our house right now. I did a menorah on the fingers, with the first two candles lit since it's the second night of Hanukkah, and on my thumbs are a dreidel and Star of David! :)

I used Zoya Indigo as a base, with Zoya Trixie for the silver, and Zoya Pippa swirled with Zoya Ginger for the flames.

Happy Hanukkah to my Jewish readers! :)

Lastly, on an unrelated note, here is a picture of my totally kick ass (if I do say so myself) Final Project in my chocolate class, I got 100/100!! :) WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Everything you see is 100% edible, though if anyone tries, I doubt they'd survive. :-D (if you catch my drift)

Would You Like Fries With That?

Day 59

Today's nails are what I had for dinner last night (and might have again tonight- I love burgers!!) I just thought that it'd be a funny manicure, so there you have it!

Bon appetit!

I used a franken for the base made from a cheapie bottle of white polish (93¢), 1/4 bottle of Zoya Dea and a few drops of Zoya Pippa. I really need to find a goldy yellow creme. Suggestions? I stippled Zoya Dea with a fluffy brush for the top of the 'bun', Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme mixed with China Glaze Liquid Leather for the burger, Zoya Pippa mixed with Sally Hanson Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in 06 Sun Kissed for the cheese, China Glaze White on White for the onions, Essie Alligator Purse mixed with China Glaze Salsa for the tomatoes, OPI Green-wich Village for the lettuce, Nubar Forest for the pickles on a few of them, and then the franken for the sesame seeds. Topped it all off with 2 luxurious coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Would you like to super-size that?

They Came From Space

Day 58

Today's nails are dedicated to the first video game I ever played. EVER. SPACE INVADERS!!!! It was a pain in the ass to paint the little squares, and I had to start over on a few nails, but I'm super excited with how they turned out! Plus, thanks to Wikipedia, I just found out that the company I work for used to hold the license for the game! Crazy!!

I used China Glaze Liquid Leather for the base, Barielle Sweet Addiction for the thumb, which might I add, is one of my first Barielle polishes (I bought the other day when they were on sale), and it is amazing, super opaque with just one coat, and a BEAUTIFUL color. I think I'm in love. For the index finger, I used China Glaze Salsa mixed with China Glaze White on White to get the pink, Zoya Yummy for the middle finger, Zoya Pippa for the ring finger, and Barielle Grape Escape mixed with China Glaze White on White for the pinky! :) I topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat so the little buggers couldn't go anywhere. :-P

Outside the Lines

Day 57

Hi all!! Today I was feeling a tad colorful, so I thought I'd take my friend Erik's (of Vegas Made Me Do It fame) suggestion, and do crayons!! We never ever get too old for crayons, hell, I'm 28, and have the 64-pk with built-in sharpener in my desk drawer. (You HAVE to have the sharpener) Plus, one of the best time killer websites that I like to haunt is the Crayola site. :-) you can even test out their 'glitter' crayons on the online coloring pages!! :-P I'm SUCH a dork. I know. I discovered the fun side of their site back when I lived in Michigan, I used to work for a children's educational software publisher.

I used Zoya Pippa as a base, with Zoya Midori mixed with Nubar Forest for the green Crayola box stripes in the background.

Left thumb:

Used: China Glaze Salsa for the crayon, mixed with China Glaze White on White for the paper wrapper and highlights, and mixed with China Glaze Liquid Leather for the shadows, and then China Glaze Liquid Leather for the signature black Crayola stripes.

Topped everything off with two coats of Seche Vite top coat, because it's the shiz.

And finally, my first attempt at screening a 2-color design, can't get the bastard to line up, but its not terrible. A skully santa!! The art was adapted from an embroidery pattern I purchased on Urban Threads, which I check daily, since they have the most badass embroidery designs, for both hand and machine embroidery- skulls, robots, zombies, pirates, basically everything cool in life, they have adapted into embroidery form. Right now they're having a sale!!! so I bought this skully pattern, and I think I'm going to buy the reindeer skully, and then they have this awesome lace snowflake pattern, but hidden in the snowflake is a skull, wicked! Ok, enough crafting nerdiness for today. :) (I'm sure there will be more tomorrow or the next day)

My Hands are Tied.

Day 56

First off, I'm going to say that I love most of what came out of the 60's and 70's. I love the music, the art, the styles, etc, and tie dye!! (even though I never wear it!! ;-P) :) So today's nails are my interpretation of the fashion fad that we all know, and love or loathe. :-P

I used China Glaze White on White as a base, with China Glaze Salsa for the red, Zoya Paz for the orange, Zoya Pippa for the yellow, Zoya Midori for the green, Zoya Tallulah for the blue, and Kleancolor Neon Purple for the purple. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat, as per my custom. :-P

Far Out.

It's Not Easy Being Green

Day 55

Today's nails kind of remind me wrapping paper, and I absolutely love Nubar Reclaim (it was suggested by a reader, and I'm so glad she did- it's amazinnnnng!) When I was looking through my polishes for inspiration for today's look, I grabbed Reclaim, and then noticed that Nubar Forest is totally in the same hue, just no holo! :) Naturally, this made me want to do a look with them. So, with no further ado...

I used Nubar Reclaim as a base, with Nubar Forest applied with Konad Plate m64 for the design! Topped off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

They Melt in Your Mouth, Not ON Your Hand!

Day 54

Today's nail are dedicated to tiny bite-sized morsels of candy-coated milk chocolate that we all know and love... m&m's!!

I used China Glaze Salsa for the thumb, Zoya Pippa for the index, Nubar Milk Chocolate Creme for the middle, Ultra Pro in Blue Blaze for the ring finger, Nubar Forest for the pinky, and Migi Nail Art Pens for the m's.

MmmmMmmm! The Peanut Butter ones are my fav, what are yours?

Holla!-graphic

Day 53

So, I got China Glaze L8R G8R in the mail finally, so I decided I HAD to use it, I'm totally in love with Holographic polishes.. they're so preeeeetty! :-P I'm sad though, I broke my thumbnail while steering trying to avoid the idiots driving through the Venetian parking ramp... and it was all for naught. I was there to go to the Venetian Sephora to check out Illamasqua's foundation in shade 105, the tester looks promising, but alas, they were out. *sigh* I still picked up Illamasqua Rampage Illamasqua Rampage, a gorgeous dark green jelly nail polish. It's lovely. :) So anyway, since I broke my thumbnail, had to chop the rest to match :( short nails feel weird. Since marbling is technically different on both hands, I am posting each one. (Usually I only post the left hand, because the right hand is identical)

Left hand:

Right hand:

I used China Glaze OMG as a base, and used a water marbling technique with two other China Glaze holographic polishes, China Glaze DV8 and China Glaze L8R G8R, a teal and green, respectively. Topped it off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Holla! :-P I'm such a dork.
