Oh, the days of my youth...my teenage years awkwardly spent in the 90s with a strange and slightly unhealthy love of...vests. While the grunge movement only barely made it to the tiny town of 800 that I grew up in, I still appreciate the days of flannel shirts, combat boots, and Nirvana just as much as if I had participated in them myself. :) I'm loving the nostalgia that comes with Rebel, the latest collection from the color geniuses at China Glaze! The colors and finishes definitely evoke memories of the 90s, and are positively stunning even if you're too young to remember them!

Lets start with some sparkle and work our way from there...
Holo at Ya Girl!
Green-gold iridescent glitter with blue and teal glitter.
This polish is sparkle-city, and I love the gold reflect. It's not what I would describe as a holo, I'd say it falls firmly in the iridescent spectrum. It takes a few coats to be 'opaque', but can totally be worn on it's own. I used 3 coats in the photo shown.
Opacity: 1
Finish: Glitter, 3+ coats to be opaque
Don't Mesh With Me
Light purple iridescent shimmer with a purple micro glitter and a STRONG pink reflect.
I actually love this color on its own, even though I can still see a VNL with 3 coats. It's just such a pretty color that it doesn't bother me at all.
Opacity: 1
Finish: Glitter, 3+ coats to be opaque
Teen Spirit
Deep inky blurple packed with metallic micro glitter
This one was SO hard to photograph. It was driving my camera bonkers! It's super pretty and is so incredibly opaque. It was borderline one coat!
Opacity: 4.5
Finish: Glitter, 1-2 coats to be opaque
Blue-Ya!
Teal-tinged sapphire jelly with green and blue micro glitter.
BOOYAHHHH! This color was another one I had a hard time photographing, this and Teen Spirit are so much prettier IRL. It applies beautifully, and was another fairly opaque one!
Opacity: 3.5
Finish: Jelly, glitter, 2 coats to be opaque
Purple Fiction
Rich metallic plum
This color is far better than a Royale with Cheese, and definitely does not look like a B&$#h! :-P Sorry, had to throw some references in there! This color is pretty stunning, and covered easily in 2 coats- and look at that macro... can you see any brushstrokes? NOPE. Woah.
Opacity: 3.5
Finish: Metallic, 2 coats to be opaque
Y'all Red-y For This?
Bright red shimmer
A bright red with a hit of shimmer to make it just a little bit of metallic almost pink shimmer? It was pretty dang opaque and covered easily in 2 coats. A definite winner if you're a red lover.
Opacity: 3.5
Finish: Shimmer, 1-2 coats to be opaque
Heroine Chic
Charcoal grey metallic with a hint of red, pink, green, copper, and blue.
When I first learned of this polish, I loved the name of it, but this polish is truly a stunner! The press materials list it as a chocolate and a creme, but I get none of either. What I get is a super chic metallic with embers of red and tiny sparks of a rainbow of colors. LOVE.
Opacity: 2.5
Finish: Metallic, 2 coats to be opaque
Fresh Prince-ss
Cotton candy pink creme
This princess definitely required some special handling in the application department. It's super girly pink, and was still a bit streaky at 2 coats, so I added a third to be safe. It makes me think of the maribou pen topper Cher Horowitz uses in one of my all-time favorite movies, Clueless.
Opacity: 3
Finish: Creme, 2-3 coats to be opaque
Dope Taupe
Medium greige creme with a hint of a lavender undertone.
This magical polish is a one-coater. The best part? Even though it's jam-packed with pigment, it applied flawlessly, and is super effing chic. P.S. dope is making a comeback, right? Yeah? Dope! :-D
Opacity: 4.5
Finish: Creme, 1 coat to be opaque
Jagged Little Teal
Deep jewel-toned teal creme
YES! An Alanis reference! Jagged Little Pill is one of my all-time favorite albums- that secret track... LOVE! It's one of those albums that never gets old, and its polish namesake is very much the same, I can see this one getting lots of love for years to come. Even my boyfriend commented that this was a pretty color when I was wearing it- super gorgeous.
Opacity: 4
Finish: Creme, 2 coats to be opaque
Combat Blue-ts
Rich matte metallic blue
As with all mattes, this polish can be a bit tricky to apply because it dries so quickly- but OMG is it worth it. Despite being a matte, this beautiful shade of blue seems to shine from within. China Glaze describes it as a Badass Matte Blue. I'd have to agree. It makes me wanna order a pair of Docs.
Opacity: 4
Finish: Matte, 2 coats to be opaque
Pearl Jammin'
Blue-tinged oyster with an opalescent, almost tangerine glow.
This is far and away my favorite of the collection. I couldn't stop staring at my nails when I was wearing it. I was at Cosmoprof when I saw it for the first time; Tori, the awesome China Glaze representive was wearing it. She was showing a few of us bloggers all the amazing upcoming stuff for China Glaze, but I couldn't stop staring at her nails. I actually interrupted her (sorry Tori!) to find out what it was that she was wearing. It's a super gorgeous color, and I want to have like 10,000 of its babies. (another late 90s reference!!)
Opacity: 2.5
Finish: Iridescent, 2-3 coats to be opaque
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
This collection had so many beautiful colors and finishes with amazing application, and I definitely see them becoming staples in my collection! I may have to buy a backup of Pearl Jammin' because I love it so damn much.

Your swatches are SO good!
ReplyDeleteUm, you're the queen of amazingggg swatches, so I'm taking that as a huge compliment! :D
Delete'Blue-Ya!' looks soooooooo good matted. I just want to wear it that way for the rest of my life.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to have to try that!!
DeleteThere is an RBL color that I wanted so badly and never hit... Pearl Jammin' reminds me a bit of it. I think I may have to find these colors somewhere.
ReplyDeleteIf you only get one from the collection, that would definitely be the one you need. It's insanely gorgeous.
Deletebravo! excellent work!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! :)
DeleteYou are so thorough. I am a little intimidated by your post. Something to work toward.
ReplyDeleteLove Combat Blue-ts!
