May the 4th Be With You

So apparently there is this saga which involves 6 movies, a guy in a black cloak and helmet, some white armor clad things, some teddy bear looking things, a little green guy, and the force...but here's the thing... I've never seen them...ever. I know that I'm one of the few, and possibly the proud, but yeah, nope, not likely to happen. However, I recognize that 90% of the world (probably more) have seen these movies and love them, worship them, and some actually LIVE them I think, so in honor of today (and a suggestion from reader Rebecca, who brought the holiday to my attention), which is Star Wars Day, I decided that I would suck it up and do Star Wars nails. I understand that by having never seen any of the Star Wars movies, that I am sure to lose my nerd cred, but I feel like I have to be honest. :-D

I used American Apparel Cotton as a base for the Stormtrooper helmets, and American Apparel Hassid for the black, as well as for Darth Vader's helmet. I also mixed a little of the American Apparel Cotton to make a dark grey to paint the features of Vader's helmet, which, unfortunately, are hard to see. I topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

...I AM your father.

  5. Classic tale of Good vs Evil, you've seen it before in so many ways. Kings and princesses, the knight in shining armor who has his entire worldly beliefs challenged and has to overcome the fact that the world isn't what he thought it was, the knight in not-so-shining armor who is redeemed by love, the evil dude that will stop at nothing to get what he wants, including killing his own. The mystic/magician who advises (there are a few). Just a science fantasy version.
You are such an artist though! To capture them without seeing the movie. Great job!

  6. I don't know what I look forward to more, your daily mani's or the names you come up for them!

  7. I think it is a generational thing. If you were around in the 70's when this first came out you would understand the epic story of Star Wars and the impact it had at that time. Everyone now has seen it and done it all. Back then, no one had ever seen anything like it.

But your nails are killer!! LOL.

  8. What a coincidence, my friend just sent me an email saying 'patience young Jedi...' Like you I have never seen a Star Wars film and sometimes I confuse it with Star Trek (people get really angry when I do that) so I just try and ignore it all.

Love your nails though!!! You have to keep going for a second year or do something similar I'll miss this blog :(

  9. Talking of coincidences I've been meaning to ask you, you did a post called 'Sock it to me' I'd never heard of the sock monkey but then I watched the film 'My Sister's Keeper' and the girl was wearing these slippers

  10. I agree with anonymous of May 4 1:45 pm- completely. And I stopped going after the first three movies, so I guess I'm a bad nerd, too.

  11. Yay! Thanks for doing my request! I have to say I am quite shocked (but not appalled) that you've not seen any of these films! I thought everyone had seen at least one of them.

I think they are still pretty damn cool (the old 3 are the best!) You should do a geek-out day where you just watch all 6 in order in one day.

  25. HUGE Star Trek convention coming to the Hilton Aug. 5-8th. If you truly consider yourself a nerdy girl, you've got to do at least one day of Trek nails for this momentous occasion!

  27. It's kind of a sin to have not seen at least ONE Star Wars movie. (jk) The only time I ever saw all three Star Wars movies back-to-back (original three, the newer ones are ca ca) was in France. It was a fun experience, because I knew the stories so well, I didn't have to follow the French too closely to know what was going on. The voice actors got better with each movie, especially the guy who did C3PO's voice.

"Mettez le Force, Luke! Je suis ton pere! hoooo paahhhh..."

    Great nails!

  29. See the first three (IV, V and VI), skip the second three (I, II and III). They are so much better than most of the crap that comes out these days.

And nice job on the nails.
