May the 4th Be With You
Tuesday, May 4, 2010
So apparently there is this saga which involves 6 movies, a guy in a black cloak and helmet, some white armor clad things, some teddy bear looking things, a little green guy, and the force...but here's the thing... I've never seen them...ever. I know that I'm one of the few, and possibly the proud, but yeah, nope, not likely to happen. However, I recognize that 90% of the world (probably more) have seen these movies and love them, worship them, and some actually LIVE them I think, so in honor of today (and a suggestion from reader Rebecca, who brought the holiday to my attention), which is Star Wars Day, I decided that I would suck it up and do Star Wars nails. I understand that by having never seen any of the Star Wars movies, that I am sure to lose my nerd cred, but I feel like I have to be honest. :-D
I used American Apparel Cotton as a base for the Stormtrooper helmets, and American Apparel Hassid for the black, as well as for Darth Vader's helmet. I also mixed a little of the American Apparel Cotton to make a dark grey to paint the features of Vader's helmet, which, unfortunately, are hard to see. I topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.
...I AM your father.

hahaha awesome! I was hoping you would do something for Star Wars, I've only ever seen one of the movies...that was enough for me, I suppose I am not nerdy enough for them :(

Ahh today is my teachers favourite day. He's been saying it all day. He has also got 'Jedi' listed as his religion from the last census. My brother and dad Forced me to watch the films when i was younger, your really not missing much :)
ReplyDeleteDon't feel bad, I've never seen any of the either. Cue all of my guy friends thinking I'm making the biggest sin on the planet.
ReplyDeleteOMG I LOVE THIS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!! i ove star wars!! :D:D
ReplyDeleteClassic tale of Good vs Evil, you've seen it before in so many ways. Kings and princesses, the knight in shining armor who has his entire worldly beliefs challenged and has to overcome the fact that the world isn't what he thought it was, the knight in not-so-shining armor who is redeemed by love, the evil dude that will stop at nothing to get what he wants, including killing his own. The mystic/magician who advises (there are a few). Just a science fantasy version.
ReplyDeleteYou are such an artist though! To capture them without seeing the movie. Great job!
I don't know what I look forward to more, your daily mani's or the names you come up for them!
ReplyDeleteThis is truly ingenious! LOVE IT!
AWESOME! more nerd nails!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a generational thing. If you were around in the 70's when this first came out you would understand the epic story of Star Wars and the impact it had at that time. Everyone now has seen it and done it all. Back then, no one had ever seen anything like it.
ReplyDeleteBut your nails are killer!! LOL.
What a coincidence, my friend just sent me an email saying 'patience young Jedi...' Like you I have never seen a Star Wars film and sometimes I confuse it with Star Trek (people get really angry when I do that) so I just try and ignore it all.
ReplyDeleteLove your nails though!!! You have to keep going for a second year or do something similar I'll miss this blog :(
Talking of coincidences I've been meaning to ask you, you did a post called 'Sock it to me' I'd never heard of the sock monkey but then I watched the film 'My Sister's Keeper' and the girl was wearing these slippers

Is that the same monkey?
I agree with anonymous of May 4 1:45 pm- completely. And I stopped going after the first three movies, so I guess I'm a bad nerd, too.
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks for doing my request! I have to say I am quite shocked (but not appalled) that you've not seen any of these films! I thought everyone had seen at least one of them.
ReplyDeleteI think they are still pretty damn cool (the old 3 are the best!) You should do a geek-out day where you just watch all 6 in order in one day.
Even though you won't watch the first 3 with me I still think you're awesome.
ReplyDelete<--- TREKKIE!!!!!!!! LIVE LONG AND PROSPER! \\//,
ReplyDeleteI don't know WHY I thought these were pandas... hahahahaha! NOW I get it!!! I just had to see the bigger pic! LOL!
ReplyDeleteHA! thats so funny!

ReplyDeleteHeh, I'm just like you.. Never watched Star Wars and probably never will. Plus, I'm more into Star Trek!
ReplyDeleteMay the fourth be with you, but beware the return of the fifth!
ReplyDeleteAnother Star Wars-less nerd here! Great nails!
ReplyDeleteVery Cool. Another one of your nail designs right up my alley. I can't believe you have never seen any of the Star Wars movies. If you ever want to see them let me know. I'll hook you up.
ReplyDeleteMy son's name is Anakin...given to him by his dad....yes he is a total nerd!
ReplyDeleteive never seen any of them either!!
ReplyDeleteomg that comment above is so funny! i would so name a son anakin! oh, and great nails!
ReplyDeleteFor someone who's never seen a star wars movie, you've done a pretty good job with these nails!
ReplyDeleteKatie @ http://thefilmangel.blogspot.com
HUGE Star Trek convention coming to the Hilton Aug. 5-8th. If you truly consider yourself a nerdy girl, you've got to do at least one day of Trek nails for this momentous occasion!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen star wars! I hate star wars, I don't like space movies! You are really talented!
ReplyDeleteBless from Sweden
It's kind of a sin to have not seen at least ONE Star Wars movie. (jk) The only time I ever saw all three Star Wars movies back-to-back (original three, the newer ones are ca ca) was in France. It was a fun experience, because I knew the stories so well, I didn't have to follow the French too closely to know what was going on. The voice actors got better with each movie, especially the guy who did C3PO's voice.
ReplyDelete"Mettez le Force, Luke! Je suis ton pere! hoooo paahhhh..."
Great nails!
i love this! a star wars geek myself, the title just cracked me up :)
ReplyDeleteSee the first three (IV, V and VI), skip the second three (I, II and III). They are so much better than most of the crap that comes out these days.
ReplyDeleteAnd nice job on the nails.
Cool! I love star wars! Your nails are awsome! I like them all. You're an artist! How can you do it???
ReplyDeleteyou, the U.S. and Europe, the nail polish away from the link below cuticula.Veja how we Brazilian, do our nails. We use a pliers for this.
