Where the Sidewalk Ends...

Shel Silverstein was the master of awesome. I've LOVED his books ever since I was a kid, both the drawings AND the poems. They're silly and funny, and absolutely wonderful, and I knew I had to incorporate the art into my 365 day project! My favorite Shel Silverstein poem of ALL TIME is 'Sick'. on page 58 and 59 of 'Where the Sidewalk Ends'. I seriously knew it word for word until I was about 20, and I still can recite bits and pieces! I cannot go to school today, said little Peggy Ann McKay, I have the measles and the mumps, a gash, a rash, and purple bumps! Ok, enough of that, on to the nails... I did 'Sick' on the thumb, 'Warning' on the index finger, 'Hug o' War' on the middle finger, 'Hat' on my ring finger, and 'My Beard' on my pinky. :)
I used Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud as a base, with American Apparel Hassid for the drawings. Topped it all off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.
What's that? What's that you say? You say to day is Saturday? G'Bye, I'm going out to play!

This entry is honestly my personal favorite--and I've read ALL your posts. :) I LOVE Shel Silverstein and your nails! Really this brought the biggest smile to my face and I feel so young and carefree again [well i'm only in my 20s, BUT STILL!]
ReplyDeletethank you!!!
This is my favorite so far. Literary nail design makes my heart smile. :) I'm getting my Masters in Library Science, and I think I want this manicure for my graduation ceremony.
ReplyDeleteYour nail art is very cool. First blog I came across that feaures people's faces as the subject.
ReplyDeleteI have little kids and we love to read Where the Sidewalk Ends. Love these nails. I'm sad your 365 are nearly done.... perhaps you will keep going just to see how far you can go? PLEASE???
ReplyDeleteI have followed you since a few weeks after you started your project. Recntly I've been going back to the start to see your early nails again. While you have always done good, fun work, and are a great artist, you have really progressed in your skills at painting fun and intricate nails. I will miss checking in with you daily.
Congrats at nearly reaching the end!
Awesome.
ReplyDeleteI love quite a few, but especially the selfish child's prayer. =)

ReplyDeleteThese are my absolute FAVORITE nails that you did all year. LOVE THEM!!
ReplyDeletei used to read those all the time they were my favorite way back when
ReplyDeleteI love Shel Silverstein's works. My sister and I were corrupted by his Uncle Shelby's ABZ book as kids ("Here's a coupon for a FREE PONY! Just cut it out and take it to your corner grocer and he'll give you a real pony!") as well as the songs like the Unicorn and Boy Named Sue and a zillion other works. I even wrote and performed a tribute poem about Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout's cousin who would not clean his closet out. Great nails!
ReplyDeleteI love this book. I forgot about it. But now that I have a 3yr old daughter, I just have to have it for her. Headed over to B&N's today.
