SHOES. They're my one TRUE love...sorry Chris, if you're reading this. They've always been there for me, and even through pain, and sometimes blisters, my love is unconditional. I love them all, heels and flats, wedges (even though I suck at walking in them) and platforms, even stilettos. The only shoe that I just can't get behind is the kitten heel. I just don't understand it, but I digress.
Last night there was an event that really was a perfect fit for me. It was at the Donald J Pliner store here in Las Vegas, so it satisfied my love of shoes, but it was also paired with something that tugged my heartstrings–an organization that works with people who have Parkinson's disease, and having a close family member afflicted by it, I was SO happy to be able to be a part of it.
Please hit the jump to read more about the event, the shoes, and the amazing organization!
First, let's talk about the shoes. Ahhh, shoes. I'm pretty sure that I'm becoming the Imelda Marcos of Las Vegas, I seriously have little-to-no willpower when it comes to shoes, I could ALWAYS use a new pair! Walking into a shoe store is a heavenly experience, and when I was greeted by part of the new fall collection when I walked into Donald J Pliner, I was completely smitten. This fall collection is definitely NOT shy! There are embellishments and touches that really make these shoes stand out, and I'm going to have a REALLY hard time waiting until fall to have them in my collection and in my life! :D. Luckily, I'm sample size, so I was able to try on all of the ridiculously cute fall shoes. Is it fall yet?! There were so many great pairs; a slouchy calf-high boot made out of buttery soft leather or suede, velvet and bead-embellished smoking slippers, fur accented slides and booties, and that's just a FEW of the styles! All of the fall styles are currently available for presale now! Are any of the following on your list? I know I definitely have a few favorites!
The pair I selected is the Feliz, a platform with a chunky stacked heel made of a soft snake print leather! To be honest, with their coloring, they totally remind me of bees, which is part of why I selected them! :D They're going to be perfect for summer, and are surprisingly comfortable! That is one thing I liked about every pair I tried on...they were ALL comfortable, but still really cute! These even have a leather to rubber sole with some serious tread, which is great for klutzes like me, or for walking back through the Forum Shoppes on that damn polished 'cobblestone' flooring to go buy more shoes! :D They're definitely one of those styles that will look equally as great with jeans as they would with an LBD!
The other part of the event was really, really awesome. A man named Townsend was there representing his amazing organization, Dopamind Boxing & Cycling. You see, what is unique about Townsend is that he works with people with Parkinson's disease. He uses non-contact boxing and tandem spin classes to improve motor function, dexterity, and coordination in his clients. As someone with a family member suffering from Parkinson's, I found his work particularly incredible. He demonstrated techniques and devices he uses to measure growth and improvement over time, and explained how he likes to incorporate music into his classes, all while helping teach techniques like footwork, hand/eye coordination, and classic boxing combinations. He even mentioned that over time, some clients experience less tremors, which is amazing. It's particularly important to keep as active as possible with the disease, and it sounds like his classes most definitely would do just that! I was particularly impressed by his eagerness to help me find a similar gym/studio or instructor to help out my family member. I think that was pretty amazing of him, and I'm so thankful!
If you have time, please check out his website, and if you can spare a few bucks, please donate to his amazing program! I can only imagine all of the people he can help! Here's a short video so you can see some of his clients, and what they do! :) I think it's absolutely amazing!

My three favs from the fall styles! |
I'm going to have dreams about these shoes. *swoon* |
These pink heels are totally out my style norm, but there is something unique about them that I dig. |
The beaded heels on these boots feels like the perfect amount of glitz for everyday wear, and since it's subtle, they'd spice up any look! |
These are part of their current available selection, I just loved the cutouts and non-typical pointed toe on a sneaker! |
