A while back after seeing some super awesome nail striping tape manicures, I decided to order some striping tape from eBay (the easiest place to order nail art things here in India). This design kinda hit me today, and I have absolutely NO IDEA where it came from, but it DOES use striping tape! The only other tool required is a cosmetic sponge! The thumb nail turned out to be my favorite, since it was the easiest to apply the tape to. I sponged the gradient first (over my yellow base color), then after that dried I applied a zillion strips of striping tape and painted the exposed nail black. Fairly easy, right?! The hardest part is making sure the stripes are evenly spaced...or dare I say 'equal'? Get it—because its an equalizer?! *groan*
I used:
Green: CND Green Scene
Light Green: Sally Hansen Grass Slipper
Yellow: CND Bicycle Yellow
Orange: Zoya Arizona
Black: American Apparel Hassid
Clear topcoat: Seche Vite
striping tape
really seriously cool.

DeleteLove this!
ReplyDeleteMaybe you got your inspiration from here: http://www.manicurity.com/2012/08/bff-challenge-music.html
Thanks! No, I actually didn't. As stated above, I'd never heard of the other blog until mentioned in the above comment. :)
Deleteits really cool *.*
ReplyDeletebut won't it be easier to paint the whole nail black, paste the striping tape in grid pattern and them apply the gradient? and it will turn out equal ^^
Thanks! :) it would actually be the same amount of work, but the color wouldn't be as bright- many yellows, reds, and greens aren't opaque enough to work OVER black, and since I wanted it bright, I did it underneath.
DeleteI am in love with this design. How did you get the blocked area off so perfect? Must try soon and get some striping tape....
ReplyDeleteOnce again, awesome nails!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, these are so cool! And if anyone is interested, I have a nail art design blog called "Polished"
ReplyDeletehttp://polishednailart.blogspot.com/
I also did this manicure a long time ago. ;) but mine is sooo amateur. Check it out here! http://clarisselitiatco.blogspot.com/2012/07/equalizer.html
ReplyDeleteYours is sooooooo beautiful! Wanna try this but I dont have a striping tape :(
Deletehow awesome! :) please, exactly what kind of striping tape do you use? when I look for it online, I'm only able to find decorative tape.. like with a picture of fancy different colored tape criss-crossing OVER polished nails for a specific look, and also it looks too skinny. is your tape decorative, too? a link would be AMAZING if it's not too much trouble. xoxo (perhaps a dumb question)
ReplyDeleteI bow to your:
ReplyDeletea. patience, and
b. skill.
:O
i like it :)
