It Only Takes a Spark-le to Start a Fire!

So yeah, yesterday was one of those days that you wish never happened, started, etc. I was one of the 'lucky' people at my company who lost their job yesterday. Sweet, huh?! (if anyone knows of any available awesome jobs in the Vegas area, please let me know!! :-D) I'm trying to look at it as a blessing, there are a ton of roads I could take at this point... I could work at night, and go back to school to get a culinary degree, I could get another graphic job, I could get a bartending or cocktail job, I could work at the casinos... the possibilities are pretty endless. I'm going to turn this situation on it's ass. :-D For today's nails I really wanted to do something fun and sparkly, so I used the new Nubar Sparkles polishes I bought at the International Beauty Show to do an ombre. :) These polishes officially kick ass, I can't stop looking at my hands, they're SO sparkly. I even ended up doing a matching pedicure!! :)

I used 3 coats of Nubar Petunia Sparkle, with Nubar Violet Sparkle sponged on the tip half of the nail. Topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat to smooth out the glitter coats. :)

So... what should my next endeavor be?

  2. Gorgeous - I think that's a look I'm going to have to try.

Bummer about the job :( But you've totally got the right attitude, something will turn up, it may come completely out of the blue and be totally unexpected and that would be awesome! Life has a way of taking us round corners that lead to great things!

  5. great attitude about losing your job. .. but have you ever considered becoming a nail technician?? think you'd be great at it!

but before the great job search/new direction takes place, don't forget to give yourself some time off! (and cash in on some employment insurance benefits :)

    awesome NOTD as always!

  6. Sorry to hear about the job. That sucks, but there's always something better in the wings...you've definitely got the right attitude as Selina said.
You're obviously creative and have follow through of your commitments, you're definitely a commodity that another company will snatch up!
If culinary school is calling your name, do what you need to do to GET THERE!
    Best of everything to you.

  26. So sorry about your job! But you're right, this is a great opportunity - your world is wide open now! You have no reason *not* to do something awesome/crazy that you've always thought about but never done because you were tied to a job.

On another note - I freaking love these nails. I want them on me RIGHT NOW.

  28. First, LOVE the nails. So pretty and sparkly! Yay! I must try sponging, it looks so cool.
Second, the job news is sucky, but it could really be the best thing that's ever happened! My husband just parted ways with his company, and we started our own consulting business. It's nerve wracking, but it's our ideas, and our follow through. It's ours. Whee!
The same now applies to you! The world is yours!!!
School is great, but I know that culinary school is super expensive, and that it's hard to pay back those loans with a restaurant career-(notorious for not paying well unless you own the joint...) perhaps you could look into jobs first, and get a hotel or casino or a fancy restaurant to hire you and pay for school FOR you. Or train you in their mold, THEN send you to school. You are already SO talented, I would think that they'd jump at the chance to snag you!
Bartending/cocktailing/serving is a nice thing to make ends meet, but you have to keep up your other activities, or you begin to feel mentally stifled. (I have a bit of experience (20 years) in that regard...)
Another graphic arts job could be a wonderful thing in and of itself, or a starting point for your next adventure!
How about photographic styling, or marketing, or advertising? You seem like you might be a natural at any one of those things!
I think that this 'perceived setback' will end up as a great opportunity for you! Go for it!
Tell your prospective employers to read this blog! We will SO TOTALLY testify!!!!!!!

I'm sorry you lost your job. I guess you could find a job that suites your lifestyle. If there are times you like to go hang out with your friends, try and find a job that has hours that allow you to have a life outside of work.

Going back to school sounds like fun.

  46. You know, the more I think about it, you should just get investors and start your own confectionary! Cakes, chocolates, breads- I would totally give you my hard earned cash for the yummies you create!!! I mean, I would fly to Vegas and renew my vows if I knew I could get a cake made by you to commemorate the occasion!!!!!
(and I really like what Kasey said above!)
    Remember, YOU ROCK!
    And we all know it!

  47. These are some of my favorite nails by you. What kind of sponge do you use? I love your blog and am so sorry to hear about the job situation. You should push for a book deal, 365 pages, one for each day of nails. I would buy that in a hot second!!!
